We continue working for mining for all Peruvians

Our mission is to work for the development of an extractive activity with social and environmental responsibility.

In the Chamber of Mines of Peru we continue working and developing our specific objectives, with the purpose of contributing to professional education of a Peru where the idea that mining is an activity carried out for benefit of all Peruvians is promoted.

Vision of the Chamber of Mines of Peru is oriented to participate in the sustainable development of Peru. This through the joint effort of all those who are related to the mining sector. And mission is focused on integrating all those who are linked to the mining sector, to work for the development of an extractive activity with social and environmental responsibility; with the aim of contributing to professional education of the Peru we all want and promote mining for all.

Working on tools which allow continuous training in mining

In order to fulfill vision and mission, which will allow continuing working for mining for everyone, the Chamber of Mines of Peru is focused on development of specific objectives.

The first is to develop tools which allow continuous training of all those who are related to mining sector. To achieve this purpose, the Chamber of Mines of Peru is constantly developing a set of applications and programs to optimize training process in various aspects of mining knowledge.

As one of the tools developed, we can mention FataLab 4.0, which aims to provide an analysis and simulation of specific cases. It allows preventing and reducing the number of accidents in mining environment. Another tool is SociaLearning 4.0, which seeks to promote cooperation and interaction between workers of different nationalities. These workers are working in mining operations located in different countries around the world.

In order to make mining an activity that benefits everyone, the Chamber of Mines of Peru believes it is very important to constantly innovate in development of training programs.

For this reason, it has developed Integrating Work 4.0, which aims to create a synergy between training and work aspects; that is, benefits obtained during training cycle are reflected in development of the work activity. The same that ends up generating workers capable of transferring what they have learned to workplace.

Finally, we have Scientific Innovation 4.0. This tool is oriented to contribute to solution of problems that arise in extractive processes. This allows optimizing value chain and at the same time generates a positive impact on mining business.

Creation and promotion of social and environmental responsibility plans

The second specific objective, which allows the Chamber of Mines of Peru to continue its work of making mining an activity in which everyone benefits, is to create and promote social and environmental responsibility plans with purpose of involving different actors of society, to allow them to participate in the development of Peru.

The social responsibility program of the Chamber of Mines of Peru works is divided into two sections: promoting access to better training opportunities for students and professors with fewer resources and working to improve living conditions of the population.

Regarding the first section, the Chamber of Mines of Peru has organized training in different universities located in north, center and south of Peru. This training program began in 2012 at the Planicie headquarters of the Chamber of Mines of Peru. Since that date, the Chamber of Mines of Peru has visited different higher education centers related to mining activity; for example the National University of Huancavelica in 2013. In 2015 it visited the National University San Luis Gonzaga of Ica and the National University Jorge Basadre Grohmann.

In order to comply with second section, the Chamber of Mines of Peru has initiated a pilot program of social responsibility. The purpose of this program is to cooperate with low-income communities. The program will be based on three fundamental pillars: nutrition, health and art, culture and the promotion of reading.

Strengthening relationship between communities and the State

The third specific objective aims to improve relations between extractive companies, communities and the State. This is to promote responsible mining activity as a fundamental contribution to development of Peru. This is of vital importance because the occurrence of social and environmental conflicts hinders execution of mining projects. To improve this problem, the Chamber of Mines of Peru has been working on a series of activities that help to analyze and improve the mining panorama.

Among these we can mention the III Pending Agenda of the Mining Sector 2016, which was organized jointly with the Congress of the Republic. This important event served to analyze the role played by the State and the opening of investments in the current mining panorama; in addition, to evaluate the mining activity and community relations, experiences and prospects for sustainable development. Legal aspects were also analyzed, as well as the role of the media and training institutions.

It is important to mention that throughout 2016, the Chamber of Mines of Peru will continue developing these activities. They will be moved to the various cities in north, center and south of the country, and then taken to the rural communities themselves.

Work on strategic mining investment projects

The fourth and last objective is to work in an integrated manner on strategic and investment projects with mining representatives, aligned to sustainable development of the industry.

This objective is related to promotion of joint work of all representatives of the sector. It also takes into account the consequences that the implementation of these projects may generate. For example we can mention the work that the Chamber of Mines of Peru has been doing with authorities of Arequipa, to promote development of the southern mining cluster, which will help to promote investments in projects approved in the Southern Region of Peru.

As part of the work to fulfill specific objectives, the Chamber of Mines of Peru also organizes national and international congresses. In them, members of the Board of Directors and Advisory Council of the Chamber of Mines of Peru and representatives of mining companies and related sectors, provide their knowledge to improve the processes related to the extractive industry.
