UNSCH Dean: “Let’s turn knowledge into development”.

The Dean of Universidad Nacional San Cristobal de Huamanga (UNSCH) mentioned the importance of turning academic knowledge into economic development.

In the framework of the Cooperation Agreement signed between The Chamber of Mines of Peru and Universidad Nacional San Cristobal de Huamanga (UNSCH), the Dean of this university, Dr. Homero Ango Aguilar, welcomed the initiative provided by The Chamber of Mines of Peru to join as strategic partners. In this way, working in favor of environmentally responsible and sustainable mining.

UNSCH has a school of professional training in mining engineering, with a 50-year tradition. It has contributed to the development of the country’s mining activity. Through the agreement signed, both institutions are committed to consolidate scientific research. In addition, the possibility of being able to apply them to solve problems that may arise in the future.

“The possibility of ongoing training for students and teachers of our institution and participation in events such as GEOMET 2016 are important activities for us in the pursuit of our development”, commented Dr. Homero Ango Aguilar.

New vision of Peruvian mining

The university authority mentioned that The Chamber of Mines of Peru has been developing a “new vision of Peruvian mining”, which will allow consolidating this new strategic economic activity around our country and thus position it in the global context.

He also announced the initiative of the public universities to form the Asociación Nacional de Universidades Públicas del Perú (National Association of Public Universities of Peru). This organization aims to become a valid interlocutor with the State and civil society, and is chaired by Dr. Jorge Alva Hurtado, who is also the Dean of Universidad Nacional de Ingeniería (UNI).

Therefore, this organization seeks that the State assumes the stewardship of all public universities; and thus reposition the public sector, achieving levels of educational quality that allow us to train the new professionals of the country, to strengthen research and to develop activities of social responsibility. This would allow for a vision of the future in search of the country’s sustainable development.

Finally, the Dean of UNSCH said: “Let’s turn knowledge into money. In this context, The Chamber of Mines is a nexus that articulates academics with the extractive activity, seeking the alignment of strategic objectives between the university, the company and the State.”
