UNI Incoming students: The Chamber of Mines of Peru participated in ceremony

Our president attended the awarding of the National School Entry Modality 2017 – I.

Ingresantes a la UNI: Cámara Minera del Perú participó en ceremonia

Engineer César Gallardo, president of The Chamber of Mines of Peru, participated in the Awards Ceremony of the School Entry Modality 2017-I of the National University of Engineering (UNI), organized by the Board of Trustees of UNI and chaired by Engineer Guido del Castillo.

This event represents a new method of admission of students at a national level (it should be noted that this is the first time it has been carried out), an idea that was proposed by Engineer del Castillo and implemented by the prestigious university. Students from different Peruvian departments were rigorously evaluated and successfully passed the evaluations to become UNI incoming students.

“You are starting a new career, engineering, which is very important for our country because all the activities of a person and a country are related to engineering. We have to take into account that our country has an enormous potential in the mining sector, the Peruvian Andes is the richest area in the world in minerals and we have to take advantage of that,” emphasized Engineer Guido del Castillo to the new students at UNI.

“Despite being an economically small country, we are the second largest copper producer in the world, second in silver and tin, first in zinc, fourth in lead and fifth in gold production. This shows how important mining is for Peru,” added del Castillo.

New incoming students to UNI have a big responsibility

On his part, during the ceremony of new incoming students to UNI, Engineer César Gallardo, president of The Chamber of Mines of Peru, highlighted the work being done by the National University of Engineering on behalf of the country’s education.

“It is an inspiration for us to see all this work that UNI is doing for the Peruvian students. For The Chamber of Mines of Peru it is also very important to continue working for the development of the country’s future professionals through different continuous training tools that prepare students to face labor market challenges. Peru has enormous mining potential but we still have a long way to go. If we all get more closely involved in getting to know what mining means for Peru, we will contribute much more to its growth,” explained Engineer César Gallardo at the ceremony for new UNI students.

The table of honor to receive the new students at UNI was formed by Dr. Alfredo Arosemena, representative of Southern Peru; Dr. Walter Estrada, Vice Rector of Research of UNI; Engineer Guido del Castillo, President of the Board of Trustees of UNI. The reception was also attended by Dr. Jorge Alva, Chancellor of UNI; Dr. Gilberto Becerra, Academic Vice-Chancellor of UNI, and Mg. Engineer Silvio Quinteros, head of UNI’s Central Admissions Office.

It is worth mentioning that the new UNI incoming students received laptops and printers provided by mining companies such as Aruntani, Buenaventura and Southern Peru.
