The objective of the Chamber of Mines of Peru is also the constant training of students and teachers.
The Chamber of Mines of Peru’s commitment to the optimization of the mining activity is not only focused on training current workers in the sector. Our commitment also focuses on training students and teachers who will be part of the future mining generations. That is, the next professionals, technicians and operating personnel of the various mining operations.
For this reason, the Chamber of Mines of Peru organizes face-to-face training sessions for the benefit of students and teachers, who belong to the national universities of northern, central and southern Peru.
“The Chamber of Mines of Peru considers that the exchange of knowledge, analysis and constant training of current and future professionals is a precise strategy to produce significant changes in the development parameters of the sector”, said Ing. César Gallardo Vela, CEO of the Chamber of Mines of Peru.
Our institution is characterized by adapting its training programs to the needs of the mining industry. Therefore, it focuses its efforts on making a total paradigm shift within the extractive field. This is focused on improving the level of training of students and teachers, not only in terms of specialized knowledge, but also in an integral aspect.
Consequently, it aims to become a generator and innovator of knowledge, science and technology for society. It also directs its efforts to prepare people for life, training quality professionals with high human values.
Training of the following professionals should focus on imparting the appropriate knowledge and enhancing the necessary skills; therefore, they will be able to effectively face the problems present in the development of the extractive activity.
One of these problems is the occurrence of socio-environmental conflicts, which have conditioned mining projects in recent years. In this regard, the ideal is to promote the improvement and efficiency of extractive projects, minimizing environmental and social impacts.
The development of academic plans promoting the use of clean technologies and respect for local populations should also be taken into account.
The Chamber of Mines of Peru is interested in optimizing the educational quality of all those related to the sector. An example of this is the training program for students and teachers from universities throughout Peru.
The first edition of this initiative was in 2012, when students from more than 16 universities received training. The facilities of the La Planicie headquarters of the Chamber of Mines of Peru were used for this purpose. In order to encourage their learning, students and teachers received books, while the most outstanding students received laptops and scholarships to study abroad.
Continuing with the development of this program, the Chamber of Mines of Peru has visited several educational institutions. One of these was the National University of Huancavelica, where the “Seminar on Safety, Occupational Health and Environmental Management in Mining” was held.
This course was aimed at students and professors of the School of Mining-Civil Engineering. The presentation was given by MBA Oscar Calero Revolledo, Director of Mining Projects of the Chamber of Mines of Peru.
Ing. Freddy Parejas, dean of the School of Mining and Civil Engineering of such university, spoke about the event, “It has been a great opportunity for students and teachers to refresh their knowledge. An additional benefit has been the exchange of experiences between our students and teachers with the group of experts from the Chamber of Mines of Peru. Therefore, I congratulate this initiative that contributes to improving the level of current and future professionals in the mining field”.
This type of activities continued during 2014 and 2015. One of them was held at the School of Mining Engineering and Metallurgy of the San Luis Gonzaga University of Ica; where more than 100 students received training in management, formalization and social responsibility.
“We are grateful for the presence of the Chamber of Mines of Peru and hope that we can count on the presence of this prestigious institution again. It is a praiseworthy work that the institution is doing through its policy of reaching out to the somewhat forgotten universities in the interior of the country”, said Mg. Roberto Bendezú, Dean of the aforementioned school.
In addition, in August 2015, our institution reached the Jorge Basadre Grohmann National University of Tacna. Its objective was to provide training for the benefit of a hundred students and teachers from different engineering specialties, among they are Mechanical, Mining, as well as Metallurgical, Geological and Geotechnical.
In addition, the training course was given by Dr. Guillermo Casafranca García, Director of Environmental and Corporate Social Responsibility Projects.
In addition, the Dean of the School of Engineering of the aforementioned university, Dr. Julio Fernández Prado, commented on the event, “I congratulate the Chamber of Mines of Peru on the actions it has been taken at a national level for the benefit of mining students, who will be the forgers of a renewed mining industry that promotes national development.”
The most important thing is that this type of initiative is well accepted by the students.
“It has been a very interesting workshop, a great initiative developed by the Chamber of mines of Peru. This type of activities is not carried out by any institution, even if they are free and open to all students. I hope they continue with their work and that they return soon to our school”, said Luis Franco, student of Mining Engineering at the San Luis Gonzaga University from Ica.
Liessell Espinoza, a Metallurgical Engineering student, also commented on the initiative of our institution, “I think we needed this kind of motivation at the National Universidad of Ica. I am very happy that they have come to our classrooms to teach us a little more about mining.”
Miguel Mamani, a student of Mining Engineering at the Jorge Grohmann University of Tacna highlighted the following, “I want to thank the Chamber of Mines of Peru for coming to our school. It is important that prestigious institutions carry out this type of initiative and invest time and money in improving the quality of the students’ education.”
Through the organization of these trainings, the Chamber of Mines of Peru continues its work to optimize training in the mining sector. Therefore, it wishes to train more and more qualified professionals thanks to its commitment to the education of future mining generations. In this way, a more responsible and sustainable extractive activity will be consolidated.
