In order to analyze the problem of the large-scale mining in Peru, the Energy and Mining Commission of the Congress of the Republic of Peru organized the forum “Mining and the Sustainable Development Challenge”. This event gathered the main parties involved in the development of the mining sector of the country.
This event took place in the Legislative Palace premises and was organized by Armando Villanueva Mercado, the President of the Energy and Mining Commission of the Congress of the Republic of Peru.
In the event participated representatives of the Ministry of Energy and Mines (Minem), the National Center of Strategic Planning (CEPLAN), the Environmental Assessment and Control Agency (OEFA), the Gerens Institute, the Catalyst Institute, among others institutions.
During the forum, the specialists analyzed the mining projects development during their investment, exploration and development stages. Likewise, they revised the new legislation issued by the government, which makes more flexible the Environmental Quality Standards (EQS) and the regulations that accelerates the procedure to develop new mining projects.
Responsible mining institution
The Chamber of Mines of Peru, which also participated in this event, highlighted the need to work for a responsible mining institution. Businessmen and specialists must focus their efforts to humanize the mining sector using mechanisms and procedures in this regard.
In statements to the press team of The Chamber of Mines of Peru, the Congressman Armando Villanueva Mercado outlined the effort performed by our institution, because it is aware of the actions taken by the Energy and Mining Commission of the Congress of the Republic of Peru.
The legislator also said that our institution is very close to the mining daily work; therefore, it plays a very important role: to keep the experts updated, since they work and develop their skills to achieve a sustainable mining.
Finally, the Congressman Villanueva highlighted the importance of events such as “Mining and the Sustainable Development Challenge”; and outlined the promotion of new mining projects that will lead the country to the next level.
