Businessman Roque Benavides assumes the presidency of the National Confederation of Private Business Institutions (Confiep) replacing Martin Pérez Monteverde. The Chamber of Mines of Peru was also present at the ceremony through its president, Engineer César Gallardo.
Benavides will lead the Executive Committee for the 2017-2019 period, together with his two vice presidents. The first is the president of the AFP Association, Giovanna Prialé. In addition, the president of the Lima Stock Exchange (BVL), Marco Zaldívar, will also make up the board.
In his first speech, the businessman thanked all the public and private institutions that carry out actions to move the country forward; which achieved positive indicators for our economy.
He also welcomed the Government’s initiative to reduce economic informality and prioritize the unblocking of large investment projects in Peru.
“With all these actions, we are confident that we will continue to make progress in reducing the infrastructure gap and the social agenda, which puts us one step ahead on the path to progress,” the businessman said. Roque Benavides is assuming the presidency for the second time, having previously held this position from 1999-2001.
The presence of the President of the Republic, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, is also noteworthy. The President indicated that his government’s priority is to promote the mining sector in order to generate greater economic development. The latter, through the simplification of procedures and different measures implemented to the exploratory activity.
The event was also attended by ambassadors and mining entrepreneurs, who have just returned from their participation in the most important mining exploration convention in the world: PDAC 2017. In addition, Peru was one of the largest delegations at the convention, which was held in Toronto, Canada.
