The Chamber of Mines of Peru, together with members of the Parliament and local authorities, attended the scale model exhibition.

New Main Square of Jauja

Members of the Parliament and local authorities attended the display of the New Main Square of Jauja held at the Gustavo Mohme Meeting Room of the Congress of the Republic.

The press conference was attended by Ivan Torres, major of Jauja, Israel Tito and Mario Canzio, both Congressmen, and Dr. Carlos Castagnola Sánchez, Secretary General of the Advisory Council from The Chamber of Mines of Peru.

The Main Square of Jauja is an important tourist area in the city thanks to its architecture and the first church commissioned by Francisco Pizarro in Peru.

Local authorities had the initiative to work together to redesign the main square. The main objective is to attract the largest number of tourists thus generating further economic development of villagers.

To The Chamber of Mines of Peru, it is important to participate in events such as the display of the new main square of Jauja since it is an institution spreading national culture through responsible and sustainable mining.

Jauja is one of the nine provinces comprising the department of Junín and it is under the administration of the regional government of said department. It is bordered by the provinces of Yauli, Tarma, and Chanchamayo to the north, the province of Satipo to the east, the province of Concepcion to the south, and the department of Lima to the west.

It is worth noting that Jauja was one of the major areas of the Tahuantinsuyo due to its strategic location. During the Spanish conquest it became the backbone of the economic and administrative system of the Mantaro Valley.
