The President of the Advisory Council of the Chamber of Mines of Peru will also be Peru’s Ambassador to the UN.
The Executive formalized the appointment of Luis Iberico Núñez, President of the Advisory Council of the Chamber of Mines of Peru, as the new Ambassador of Peru in Italy.
The appointment of Mr. Luis Iberico as the new Ambassador is an important step for the strengthening of friendship and cooperation between both countries. Likewise, it opens a new space for dialogue to specify the development of cultural and business activities aimed at meeting the highest management and quality standards. The new ambassador also recalled that there is an important commercial and economic exchange between Peru and Italy.
“It is not a minor challenge. There are over 1200 million dollars a year that flows between both countries. There are many things that can be done as an Ambassador. Italy is among the ten largest economies in the world and is a very important bridge for relations between Peru and the Old Continent. We must reinforce this relationship that comes from the beginning of the Republic” said Iberico.
According to Supreme Resolution 210-2016-RE, published in the official newspaper El Peruano, which appoints Luis Iberico as the new Ambassador. The also former President of the Congress of the Republic (2015-2016) will be given Credentials and Full Powers to exercise his functions as “Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Peru in the Republic of Italy”. The former head of Congress announced that he will be traveling to Italy in a month. “I will be moving to Rome on November 1”, he specified.
As ambassador of Italy, Luis Iberico will also assume the position of Ambassador of Peru to the UN for Food and Agriculture (FAO). He will also serve as Concurrent Ambassador of Peru to Cyprus and San Marino.
It was the President of the Republic himself, Pedro Pablo Kuczynski, who proposed the President of the Advisory Council of the Chamber of Mines of Peru for the position in early September. “The President (Kuczynski) has been kind enough to nominate me for this honorable position”, said Iberico after participating as a guest in the swearing-in of the Ombudsman Walter Gutiérrez. The appointment of Mr. Iberico Núñez has the support of President Kuczynski and the head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ricardo Luna Mendoza.
The new Ambassador, Luis Iberico Núñez, is a journalist by profession and has hosted and directed several television programs. As a congressman, he was one of the characters introduced in 2000 by the first “vladivideo” that led to the subsequent resignation of Alberto Fujimori Fujimori to the presidency of the Republic.
He was elected President of the Congress of the Republic from 2015 to 2016. During this time, his management stood out for its efficiency and transparency. He has also been President of the Comisión de Defensa y Orden Interno (Defense and Internal Order Commission) as well as a member of the commissions on Culture, Foreign Relations, Constitution and Youth. Since August 22 of this year, he is President of the Advisory Council of The Chamber of Mines of Peru.
