About the International Holocaust Remembrance Day
On November 1, 2005, the General Assembly decided that the UN establishes January 27th as the annual International Holocaust Remembrance Day in memory of the victims of the Holocaust. This date was chosen as on this same day in 1945, the Soviet troops liberated the concentration and extermination camp of Auschwitz-Birkenau from the Nazi.
Likewise, the Secretary General of the organization expressed that “we are seeing how intolerance takes hold in the normal course of politics, grips minorities, the Muslim community, immigrants and refugees. In addition, it takes advantage of the anger and anxiety that arise in a changing world.”
That is why, now more than ever, we must unite on this occasion. To fight for universal values while making a world based on equality.
