The Chamber of Mines of Peru participated in the I Decentralized Public Hearing on mining, energy, and hydrocarbons issues organized by the Energy and Mines Commission of the Congress of the Republic in Cusco.
The Decentralized Public Hearing had as main topics mining, energy, and hydrocarbons. In this event the Energy and Mines Commission aimed to provide information on its future activities; but, more importantly, to listen to the needs of the population. The main proposal was the creation and implementation of the “Cusco – Apurimac Development Corridor”, which will generate progress to the high Andean communities in accordance with other economic activities of the area.
The Executive Director of the Chamber of Mines of Peru, Eng. César Gallardo Vela, and CMP’s advisor of Social Responsibility, Mr. Guillermo Casafranca, were also present at the hearing.
In fact, within the framework of the I Decentralized Public Hearing, Mr. Casafranca presented his project “Corredor Minero Cusco – Apurímac” (Cusco – Apurimac Mining Corridor). This idea seeks to raise the different existing alternatives for the solution of the social conflict that occurred in Las Bambas.
After the event, Eng. Gallardo met with authorities and representatives of the Faculty of Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Engineering of the Universidad Nacional San Antonio Abad of Cusco to collect technical opinions on the proposal provided by the Chamber of Mines of Peru. “This type of event allows us to implement new tools for development of the sector and to achieve responsible mining for all”, expressed Gallardo.
