A delegation from the Chamber of Mines of Peru, led by its president, Mr. César Gallardo attended the Hochschild collection exhibition at the 2017 Contemporary Art Fair ARCO that took place in Madrid, Spain from February 22 to 26.
In this opportunity, ARCO’s Organizing Committee decided to invite the Peruvian mining businessman Eduardo Hochschild.
Making this his first time featuring in an art collection alongside the most important contemporary Andean artists in Latin America.
In this event, Mr. Hochschild was recognized with ARCO’s A award.
One of the Chamber of Mines of Peru strategic goals is promoting and fostering culture, hence its presence in this event.
Mr. César Gallardo visited the exhibition of the mining entrepreneur and art advocate, Eduardo Hochschild. He was accompanied by Art Lima Director, Rochi del Castillo, and María Rosa Álvarez Calderón, Manager of the “Peru Nuestro” project.
“We wanted to attend this important event because it shows us different perspectives on the promotion and dissemination of contemporary art. Evidence of this is the art collection of the Eduardo Hochschild, which has been recognized as one of the most significant in Latin America”, commented the Chamber of Mines of Peru President, Mr. Cesar Gallardo.
ARCO Madrid 2017 comprises historical avant-gardes, contemporary classics, and new pieces. A total of 200 galleries from 27 countries; 164 of them included in the General Program, plus 42 that are part of the curated programs. Which exhibit paintings, sculptures, installations, photographs, videos, new media, drawings, and engravings.
Art and the Hochschild Collection in Lima
Eduardo Hochschild is the third generation of mining entrepreneurs, cement manufacturers, and altruistic investors in education in Peru. His company, Hochschild Mining, operates deposits of silver and gold which he positioned in the international stock markets of Europe and the US.
Likewise, the Hochschild collection, which was available at
the International Contemporary Art Fair (ARCO 2017), is considered by experts as one of the most important samples of contemporary mining art.
