Exhibition “Arte y Minería” Promotes Mining Culture

The general audience was able to appreciate part of the private collection of the CMP Executive Director.

The exhibition “Arte y Cultura” of the Chamber of Mines of Peru achieved its institutional goals of promoting the mining culture.

To promote the dissemination of arts and culture in our country. The CMP launched a series of artistic exhibitions called “Arte y Minería”

The first sample was open to the public until October 15th. As part of the II International Mining Congress GEOMET 2016, held at the National University of Engineering (UNI).

On this opportunity, attendees, exhibitors of the event, as well as students and the public. In addition, they were able to appreciate part of the impressive private collection, of Eng. César Gallardo Vela, CMP Executive Director. The collection contains over ten life-size reproductions of the main works of the Black Paintings of the Spanish painter Francisco de Goya (1746-1828).

In addition, Mr. Gallardo Vela, expressed: “It is very important for the Chamber of Mines of Peru to spread the promotion of mining art and culture, represented in the different cultural manifestations. In this manner we can promote the integration among all Peruvians. Such is one of the main objectives of the Chamber of Mines of Peru”.

CMP’s Art collection

Among Goya works that can be appreciated are Judith and Holofernes, Saturn devouring his son, Man Mocked by Two Women, Two Old Ones Eating Soup; and The Bewitched Man by force, among others.
 

Likewise, the Mr. Gallardo mentioned that: “Each reproduction, in original format, took more than a month of work. Goya is one of the main references of classical painting and I wanted to fully capture his technique.

“The response has been very pleasant and satisfactory”, assured the painter Edmundo Ríos Pita.

Ríos Pita is the author of the reproductions and one of the first members of the Foundation for Art established by the Chamber of Mines of Peru.

Finally, the Executive Director highlighted Ríos’ work and announced that they will continue with a series of exhibitions to spread culture in our country and throughout the region. “This is only the first step to consolidate a permanent agenda that links mining and artistic expressions. Which is a fundamental part of the CMP’s commitment with our society”, he added.

The II International Mining Congress GEOMET 2016 gathered over 30 experts from national and international mining activity. From officials, and executives to leaders of the main companies in the sector. They shared their experiences in this four-days event.
