Guided visit to institutions in the North American country is part of the academic program of our institution.

Delegation of the Chamber of Mines of Peru visiting Niagara Falls

The delegation of the Chamber of Mines of Peru composed of professionals and senior officials visited two of the most important universities in Canada as part of the academic program of our institution.

Participants included Carolina Kurnaeva, Camiper Academic Alliances Advisor (Peru); Augusto Calderón Aranda, Head of Development of GMI Graña y Montero Ingenieros (Peru) and wife; Anahí Aguilar Rodríguez, Consultant (Bolivia); Ofelia Vintimilla Crespo, Consultant (Ecuador); Julio César Gallardo, the Chamber of Mines Senior Management Advisor (Peru);Erles Yalle Guillén, Special Projects Supervisor of Sociedad Minera Cerro Verde S.A.A. (Peru); Fredy Olivo Urbano, Community Relations Supervisor of Hudbay Peru S.A.C. (Peru); Jesús Mendez Gaytan, General Manager of Geophysical Surveys S.A. (Mexico) and wife; and Elsa Tancayllo Cabrera, Administrator of Sermaninco SCRL (Peru).

Visiting the University of Toronto

The visit of the Chamber of Mines of Peru’s delegation to the University of Toronto took place on Thursday, March 5. At the institution, they were welcomed by Ph.D. Rachel Wallace, Associate Director, Strategy & Development of Department of Civil & Mineral Engineering, who accompanied the delegation during

their tour of the campus and the university’s faculty.

The official also presented the latest scientific advances of the institution in the field of mining. She also presented the laboratory where chemical analysis and tests of minerals, metals and rocks are carried out.

In addition, in this space Rachel Wallace answered all the questions asked by the members of the Chamber of Mines of Peru’s delegation. The visitors’ concerns focused on topics such as chemical analysis of solid samples, oxidation state speciation, sequential extraction and fire test for determining gold, silver and platinides.

Visiting Queen’s University

On Friday 6, the Chamber of Mines of Peru’s delegation made a guided visit to Queen’s University, the most important Canadian university in the area of scientific research.

The host was Ph.D. Julian M. Ortiz, Professor of the Department of Geological Sciences and Geological Engineering, who first guided them through the facilities.

Later, the tour was led by Ph.D. Amah Gareman, Director of The Robert M. Buchan Department of Mining at Queen’s University. He was asked technical questions on topics such as formation, chemistry, morphology and classification of soils.

In addition, the specialist explained the geological and engineering principles in the behavior of soils, rocks and groundwater.

Finally, the guided visit of the Chamber of Mines of Peru’s delegation concluded with a presentation by the scientist Oscar Rielo, Professor of Rock Mechanics Lab at Queen’s Engineering, on his latest research and scientific advances in mining. The expert also answered the delegation’s questions on issues related to specialized drilling and blasting techniques.
