Chamber of Mines of Peru Donations to Landslides Victims

The landslide victims of the phenomenon of “El Niño Costero” received donations from the Chamber of Mines of Peru.

As part of its social responsibility, the Chamber of Mines of Peru assisted the victims of the landslides that occurred in different districts of Peru. This initiative was a response to the call made by President Pedro Pablo Kuczynski to provide aid at the national level.

The president of the Chamber of Mines of Peru, engineer César Gallardo, alongside Dr. Carlos Castagnola, the General Secretary of the Advisory Council and advisor to the Committee on Culture and Cultural Heritage of the Congress of the Republic  arrived at “Las Terrazas de Caraponguillo” a urbanization in the province of Chosica.

Part of the assistance consisted of distributing clothing, basic food, and cleaning supplies to the residents affected by the community’s overflowing rivers.

“This national tragedy has affected all of us. We hope that with our help those who have lost everything can face this difficult situation. The Chamber of Mines of Peru calls all companies in the sector to join in this collaboration in favor of those affected by this natural disaster,” expressed president César Gallardo.

“El Niño Costero” and its victims

Wednesday March 15, 2017. After constant threats, the Huaycoloro river finally overflowed, flooding several avenues such as: Malecón Checa and Ramiro Prialé, in San Juan de Lurigancho. Minutes later, the Rímac River deluged the “Casa de la Literatura” and the “Parque de la Muralla”
 

In the northern part of the capital, the Chillón River did the same in the Panamericana Norte highway, causing the closure of the Puente Piedra and Comas pedestrian bridges. To the south, the Lurín River caused damages to the Lima-Huarochirí highway, isolating Cieneguilla and Antioquia. It seemed that nature was attacking from all sides.

Focusing mainly on Peru with 130 deaths, around 200 thousand victims of landslides, and over 1 million affected.Out of 1850 districts nationwide, 850 were affected. With around 16 thousand victims in Lima alone, 41 thousand victims and 17 dead, 139 destroyed bridges and 181 damaged bridges, and 962 km roadway destroyed
 
With this in mind, the Chamber of Mines of Peru calls all companies and entrepreneurs to join this initiative and help those who are in an emergency situation all throughout the country.
