Attendees of the Mining Congress will be able to visit the museum of the National University of Engineering

Visit the different museums which are inside this prestigious university, it will be completely free of charge.

Exhibitors, attendees and attendees of the II International Mining Congress GEOMET 2016: to be held from October 11 to 14, at the Grand Theater of the National University of Engineering (UNI), will be able to make a visit free of charge of the museums of this prestigious university.

This was announced by Eng. César Gallardo Vela, Chief Executive Officer of the Chamber of Mines of Peru. He specified that there are three museums that the attendees which are more than one thousand will be able to visit during the four days of the mining event. The museums are: the Museum of Arts and Sciences, “Engineer Eduardo de Habich”; the Mineralogy Museum of the Faculty of Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Engineering (FIGMM), and the Paleontology Museum.

The Museum of Arts and Sciences “Engineer Eduardo de Habich” was inaugurated in commemoration of UNI’s 140th anniversary, and it houses a varied collection of paintings and sculptures with a high value for the history of art in Peru. The museum is dedicated to the Polish engineer and mathematician Eduardo de Habich, founder of UNI. He made possible the adaptation to the decimal metric system in the country. These measuring instruments are also in the sample as well as archaeological pieces from the Vicus, Chancay and Inca cultures.

The Mineralogy Museum of the Faculty of Geological, Mining and Metallurgical Engineering (FIGMM) houses a sample of around 6 thousand minerals, among which a 330.85 gram native gold rock stands out; it was donated by the Venezuelan engineer Guillermo Machado. The collection is the result of many years of work by professors, students and graduates of the faculty.

Paleontology Museum

The attendees of the Mining Congress will be able to visit the Paleontology Museum, which has numerous samples of fossils, the main attraction being the remains of a complete whale.

In addition, the National University of Engineering (UNI) offers its varied collection of art and scientific instruments in a museum. It has pieces by important Peruvian artists such as Fernando de Sziszlo, Daniel Hernández, José Sabogal, Carlos Baca Flor, Sérvulo Gutiérrez, Julia Codesido, among others.

It also has a mural and an oil painting by Juan Manuel Ugarte Eléspuru, pre-Hispanic ceramics from various cultures of ancient Peru and scientific tools used by students of the university in its origins. There is also a room dedicated to the memory of Eduardo de Habich, founder of UNI, where some of his personal objects are exhibited.
