Anniversary of Rímac: History details of the district
While the ceremony, attended by the Chamber of Mines of Peru through its representative, Dr. Carlos Castagnola, celebrated the 97th anniversary of Rímac. There is much to talk about the history of this popular district.
It was named after the Rímac River, which separates it from the Cercado de Lima district. Both districts share the so-called Historic Center of Lima.
An interesting fact is that this historical district is also known “Abajo del Puente”; a reference to the river that bathes the city.
The Rímac district dates to colonial times, it has tourist attractions of great tradition. One of them, the Alameda de los Descalzos, built in 1611 and mentioned by the songwriter Chabuca Granda in her well-known waltz “La flor de la canela”.
Other attractions are the “Quinta de Presa”, the “Paseo de Aguas” and the “Plaza de Toros de Acho”. All dating from the 18th century.
And lastly, but not least, in 2015 Unesco included the district as a World Heritage Site. For all this and more, from the Chamber of Mines of Peru, we warmly congratulate Rímac for its anniversary.
