The prominent ambassador and writer Edgardo de Habich visited the museum, named after his grandfather, the founder of UNI, Eduardo de Habich; as part of the activities scheduled for the II International Mining Congress GEOMET 2016 organized by the Chamber of Mines of Peru.
The visit was led by the executive director of our institution, Eng. César Gallardo Vela. Furthermore, Dr. Jorge Alva Hurtado, the UNI‘s principal and the president of the university’s Board of Trustees, Eng. Guido del Castillo.
The “Eduardo de Habich” museum, located within the National Engineering University, houses important art exhibits. Among these, there are paintings by José Sabogal and Pancho Fierro, as well as sculptures and pre-Inca archaeological pieces. Additionally, it also houses the desk where the founder of UNI kept several of the engineering instruments that he brought from Europe at the end of the 19th century.
“It is really touching to be able to visit the university that my grandfather founded, tour this museum, see myself reflected in his portrait and see how he worked. My grandfather was a great man and, despite being Polish, he dedicated a large part of his life and efforts to Peru”, said the diplomat.
When Ambassador Edgardo de Habich visited his grandfather’s museum, he took the opportunity to donate five of his grandfather medals.
He was also accompanied by his wife, Mary de Habich; the president of the Advisory Council of the Chamber of Mines of Peru, Lic. César Campos; the ambassador and former president of the Advisory Counsil of The Chamber of Mines of Peru, Mr. Luis Iberico Núñez; Countess Isabel de Mauléon de Bruyères, among other personalities.
