The CEO of The Chamber of Mines of Peru, engineer César Gallardo, and executives of our institution visited the Colquiri mining complex, which belongs to the Bolivian Mining Corporation (COMIBOL). The delegation was received by the mine’s General Manager, engineer Milton Altamirano.
During the technical visit, the representatives of The Chamber of Mines of Peru learned about the zinc and tin extraction processes carried out at the mine. “It has been very interesting to get a close look at one of the most important mines in Bolivia”, said Luis Alva, chairman of the Technical Advisory Committee of our institution.
Colquiri Mining Complex: Polymetallic deposit
The mining district of Colquiri is located in the province of Inquisivi of the department of La Paz, in the fourth municipal section of the same name, 233 km southeast of the city of La Paz. Colquiri in Aymara means “sleeping silver”, and the mining complex has been known since colonial times for the exploitation of this mineral. This is a polymetallic tin-zinc-lead-silver deposit.
In the district of Colquiri there are a total of 106 mining concessions covering 6,380 hectares, 80% of which belong to the state-owned COMIBOL (5,103 hectares). Empresa Minera Colquiri Sinchi Wayra of Colquiri and Cooperativa 26 de Febrero have each leased part of the Colquiri deposit from COMIBOL.
With the visit to the Colquiri Mining Complex, The Chamber of Mines of Peru fulfills one of its strategic objectives. This visit also included the exchange of knowledge between our executives and advisors, and members of COMIBOL.
In this way, our institution also establishes and strengthens ties with companies in the Bolivian mining sector. Of course, with the objective of continuing to contribute to the development of responsible and sustainable mining, but above all, reflecting its benefits for all.
