Working group with the UNSCH organized by our institution

Inter-institutional meeting aims to optimize the academic training of professors and students.

Working group with the UNSCH

The Chamber of Mines of Peru is constantly seeking to develop tools and programs that contribute to optimization of the academic training of professors and students related to the mining sector. For this reason, it organized a working group with Deans and Directors of the National University San Cristobal of Huamanga (UNSCH).

The university authorities expressed their satisfaction with the initiative of the Chamber of Mines of Peru. They also highlighted the enormous benefit for the mining industry of establishing bridges between the business, state and educational sectors.

“I think this first meeting we have had with the Chamber of Mines of Peru is fundamental. The central theme has been to find the best way to optimize academic quality in the university sector. This rapprochement between the business, state and educational fields is important to establish a bridge of collaboration. It allows the improvement of pending aspects in the universities. For example, the development of research work. I am sure that the training of students and the updating of professors and directors will promote consolidation of a quality extractive industry”, said Mr. Ybar Palomino Malpartida, Dean of the Faculty of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering of the UNSCH.

In this working group, the strengths, opportunities, weaknesses and threats present at UNSCH were analyzed.

Working together

“There is a need to improve training at all levels, both for undergraduate and graduate students; in addition, it is necessary to constantly update professors. The training of all of us who are part of this industry is the only way to solve the problems inherent to the mining sector”, said Eng. Jaime Huamán Montes, Director of the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Civil Engineering.

Cesar Gallardo Vela, Chief Executive officer of the Chamber of Mines of Peru, expressed the willingness of our institution to work together with the university.

“Our intention is to be aware of needs that arise in order to develop an action plan and analyze the best possible way to contribute to the optimization of aspects such as the curriculum, the creation of bridges to enhance student access to pre-professional  internships and ensure better infrastructure,” he said during the working group with the UNSCH.

Eng. Cesar Gallardo Vela indicated that it is imperative that business, educational and state entities work together to optimize the academic quality related to the mining industry.

The representatives of the University of Huamanga were in favor of this initiative. The Dean of the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy expressed his conviction that working together with the Chamber of Mines of Peru will be beneficial to encourage research work in the mining-metallurgical area.

“We at the University of Huamanga, at undergraduate level, have the Faculty of Chemical Engineering and Metallurgy; and at master level, we have the Faculty of Environmental Engineering. Therefore, we need to establish this training bridge in favor of students and professors, to develop a quality university education”.

Authorities of the UNSCH thanked the working group

On the other hand, Eng. Indalecio Quispe Rodríguez, who attended as representative of the Dean of the Faculty of Mining, Geology and Civil Engineering, highlighted the proposal of the Chamber of Mines of Peru. “They have presented us a very interesting proposal to improve our educational quality at all levels, i.e. students, professors and also directors. I am sure that the authorities of our faculty will be very interested in working hand in hand with the Chamber of Mines of Peru”.

Once the work group between the UNSCH and the Chamber of Mines of Peru was concluded, the university authorities expressed their approval towards the organization of this type of events. “My greetings and thanks to the Chamber of Mines of Peru for this event. I hope it will not be the only time it is held. It is important that the university sector and the central government, through the Chamber of Mines of Peru, establish a bridge to improve the quality of education throughout Peru,” said Mr. Ybar Palomino Malpartida.

Finally, Eng. Jaime Huaman Montes thanked the Chamber of Mines of Peru.

“I want to thank the Chamber of Mines of Peru for this opportunity. I hope that we will continue to interact in favor of the mining sector. In particular, for the benefit of students and professors related to the extractive sector of our university,” he said.
