The general secretary of the Advisory Council of the Chamber of Mines of Peru, Dr. Carlos Castagnola, attended the supervision for the restoration of the Inca ceremonial fortress of Sacsayhuaman.
The president of the Commission of Culture and Cultural Heritage of the Congress of the Republic of Peru, Francesco Petrozzi, was also present. The purpose was to verify the damage and deterioration that our national heritage has been suffering due to torrential rainfall.
A technical team of experts, monitored by the Ministry of Culture, has been working on the recovery and enhancement of the most affected area of the famous Inca fort. The Chamber of Mines of Peru was present at the supervision for the restoration of the Sacsayhuaman fortress in order to provide the necessary help to conserve and restore this monument of our ancestral culture.
The ceremonial construction is located 2 km from Cusco, capital of the ancient Inca empire. In addition, it is located at an altitude of 3,700 meters above sea level and covers an area of 3,093 hectares.
The valley is surrounded by the Pachatusán, Ausangate and Cinca mountains, and is bathed by the Tullumayo River. In addition, this area has a landscape of great natural beauty, as it has abundant flora and fauna.
In Sacsayhuaman, on June 24, in the winter solstice, the Inti Raymi festival is held, where the Inca ritual of worship to the Sun God or Inti is staged. The local people wear colorful costumes and dance typical dances, thus repeating the tradition of their ancestors.
At the moment, only 20% of the historical construction can be seen, because during the Conquest, the Spaniards destroyed towers and walls to cancel a possible attack. On the other hand, its stones were used to build houses and churches in the city of Cusco.
