Peru’s cultural manifestations are supported by The Chamber

The Chamber of Mines of Peru, as an entity committed to art and culture, supports all cultural manifestations. For example, Danza de las Tijeras (Scissors Dance), an artistic expression of ancestral origin of peculiar movements and unfolding. It has also been recognized by UNESCO as intangible cultural heritage of humanity.

For all these attributes, the Congress of the Republic of Peru, as part of its work to protect cultural manifestations, presented a bill that proposes to declare November 16 as “Scissors Dance Day.”

The bill was presented by the member of Congress Wuilian Monterola Abregú. The news was announced during a cultural event held at the Juan Santos Atahualpa auditorium. The event was attended by The Chamber of Mines of Peru. Dr. Carlos Castagnola, General Secretary of the Advisory Council of The Chamber of Mines of Peru, who is also an advisor to the Commission of Culture and Cultural Heritage of the Congress of the Republic of Peru, was present.

It is worth mentioning that The Chamber of Mines of Peru is an institution that cares and supports the promotion and dissemination of cultural events and art in our country. Likewise, it maintains an agreement with Universidad Nacional de Huancavelica; city where this recognized artistic activity is practiced.

Important cultural manifestation

The member of Congress Francesco Petrozzi, president of the Commission of Culture and Cultural Heritage, was also present at the ceremony. Regarding the bill to recognize one of the many cultural manifestations of our country, he assured that his working group will rule on the legislative proposal that seeks to value this and other cultural manifestations.

Also the president of the Huancavelica Departmental Club, Victor Correa Tineo, and the representative of the Ministry of Culture, Miguel Hernandez, attended. They emphasized the value of these cultural manifestations that represent an artistic demonstration that has been transmitted throughout the centuries. Likewise, they pointed out that the dancers should be given a pension of grace.

For his part, legislator Monterola, a native of Huancavelica, mentioned that there are more than 600 scissors dancers in Peru. They “not only practice art but also study it and keep the culture alive through talks, exhibitions and annual congresses held for the promotion and dissemination of art,” he said regarding this cultural manifestation.
