Ministry of Culture, the Congress and The Chamber of Mines of Peru support mining

Members of The Chamber of Mines of Peru, the Ministry of Culture, and the Congress are preparing a Framework Agreement to lay the basis for promoting the different cultural expressions in mining with the aim to reach a responsible mining identity.

The meeting was held at the Interculture Vice-Minister’s office and was attended by Alfredo Luna Briceño, Vice-Minister for Interculturality; César Gallardo, President of The Chamber of Mines of Peru, and Dr. Carlos Castagnola, Secretary General of the Advisory Council of The Chambers of Mines of Peru.

This meeting lays the basis for promoting a responsible mining identity. The aim of these three bodies is to raise awareness of mining culture in the country.

Participation of the President of The Chamber of Mines of Peru

In the meeting, Gallardo said The Chamber of Mines of Peru carries out activities in cities where mining is developed. For that reason, his work is aimed at people that benefit, in a way, from mining. He is also working together with national Peruvian universities.

Gallardo remarked that the main strategic objective is to share that mining culture with areas surrounding the mining operations via mining cultural expressions. To this end, it is important to work out some short-to-medium-term scheme, for which the Vice-Minister for Interculturality would be of help.

Alfredo Martin Luna, Vice-Minister for Interculturality, approved the proposal brought forward by The Chamber of Mines of Peru and asked its members to continue holding meetings over the preparation of the Framework Agreement.

To conclude, an invitation for the art and culture forum “Art Mine 2017” was made to the assistants. This event, promoted by the Ministry of Culture, will take place on October 27 and it is expected the participation of the National University of Engineering.

During the forum, those miners who support the development of communities will be rewarded. Performers who seek to recover and enhance their cultural heritage attracting tourists in benefit of communities will be rewarded as well.
