Mining Institution responsible for the anniversary cultural activities
It’s important to highlight that the Chamber of Mines of Peru emphasizes responsible mining and environment protection in the country’s regions.
Regarding this institutional policy, the legislator Rogelio Tucto used the presence of the Chamber of Mines of Peru in the activities to inform that the region has been dealing with environmental pollution issues. Issues caused by Antamina company, in the area surrounding the province of Huamalies, and Raura mining company, in the province of Lauricocha.
The Congressman states that the Agency for Environmental Assessment and Enforcement (OEFA) has weakly participated before these environmental issues. The institution doesn’t have the authority to punish the companies causing environmental issues.
«For this reason, the Congress of the Republic of Peru has worked on a bill that pursue to give more competences and powers to this institution. In order that it may ensure a good mining management in Peru», said the legislator.
Finally, the Congressman Tucto recognized the participation of the Chamber of Mines of Peru in the cultural activities of Huánuco. He also supported the work done by the institution, such as promoting the training courses for mining specialists, especially with emphasis on responsible mining.
