The Chamber of Mines of Peru opened the GEOMET 2016, 2nd International Congress on Mining, which was attended by more than 1,500 people.
The event was attended by leading mining companies of the country, the most renowned experts in the field, and CEOs from international companies. In addition, social management advisors, government representatives, and university students were also present at the event.
Attendees met at the Great Theater of the National University of Engineering (UNI), where more than 30 mining experts, both national and international, made their presentations. During
the four days the event lasted, these experts shared their experiences.
The opening speech was delivered by the Engineer César Gallardo Vela, CEO of The Chamber of Mines of Peru. The event was also attended by Luis Iberico Núñez, Ambassador of Peru to Italy and former President of the Advisory Council of The Chamber of Mines of Peru; Jorge Alva Hurtado, President of UNI; Edgardo de Habich y Palacio, Ambassador; Guido del Castillo Echegaray, Head of the UNI Board of Trustees and President of Aruntani Mining Company; Clayton Galván Vento, Congressman; Isabel de Mauléon de Bruyères, Countess; César Campos Rodríguez, new President of the Advisory Council of The Chamber of Mines of Peru; among other attendees.

Engineer Gallardo expressed, “I am honored to be here with you in one of the best universities of Peru to open this event, which will help us to continue working in the search of a responsible and sustainable mining. The main goals of The Chamber of Mines of Peru are the optimization of processes and cost reduction, as well as the strengthening of the relationship between mining companies, the State, and communities; the promotion of a global and sustainable mining socially and environmentally responsible along with the promotion of research, development and innovation. Francesco Petrozzi, Congressman and President of the Committee on Culture and Cultural Heritage, also attended this important event. The Congressman received recognition for promoting the culture and social responsibility in the country.
“Optimization and cost reduction in mining” is the main theme of the new edition of the 2nd Congress ‘GEOMET 2016’ as it seeks to involve all the stakeholders in mining activities in order to achieve a better productivity and efficiency during the development of their operations.
