International Course for Management of Mining Companies in Times of Crisis

The course of the Chamber of Mines of Peru will be given by MBA Oscar Calero.

International Course for Management of Mining Companies in Times of Crisis

The Chamber of Mines of Peru will organize the first International Course for management of mining companies in times of crisis. The purpose of this course is to train participants so that they can apply management strategies, with good results in America, Europe, Asia and Oceania.

In addition to the drop in metal prices at international level, in recent years, conflicts between mining companies and nearby communities have increased. These situations have caused a decrease in private investment in this sector and the consequent temporary stoppage of projects.

For this reason, important aspects aimed at strengthening the mining industry will be addressed in this course.

International Course for Business Management

This important course will be given by the outstanding consultant of the Chamber of Mines of Peru, MBA  Óscar Calero, Director of Mining Projects. The specialist will present success cases applied in other countries, so that the representative of a company in crisis can identify its cases with others that have happened in different countries.

The program is composed of several topics that include operational excellence and cost reduction strategies. This is important because, given the scarce resources currently available in the mining industry, it is necessary to carry out unit operations with the highest level of profitability. For example, to obtain the maximum performance of expensive equipment such as trucks, excavators, etc.

Another important topic will be the dissemination of business innovation strategies and emerging technologies. This topic will focus on the importance of updating and training of not only workers, but also executives. Continuing with cost reduction, techniques aimed at the energy field will also be taught. This will be very important to reduce the investment in activities that have a high-energy consumption, such as metallurgical grinding and crushing operations

Optimization of Economic Aspects in Mining Projects

Undoubtedly, within the development of mining processes, the economic aspect must be valued and analyzed. Likewise, in the program of this international course, two points related to this topic, such as analysis and profitability of mining projects and analysis of resources and investment capital are planned to be developed.

Management of human talent in times of crisis is one aspect that should also be reviewed. Therefore, organizations must carry out constant training of their workers, so that they master the new techniques for their tasks of drilling and rock blasting, etc.

Political and Social Aspects for a Correct Management of Mining Projects

In some territories, concession requirements established by the authorities have increased. In countries such as El Salvador and Panama, the lack of a defined legislation in this area has created numerous obstacles for project approval. This has also facilitated the proliferation of illegal extractive groups, which damage the environment.

To reinforce this point, two topics have been prepared: Analysis of geopolitical uncertainty and strategies for collaboration with the Government. The objective is to improve the negotiation of companies with the authorities in order to achieve the viability of projects.

In addition, the development of communication channels between extractive companies and institutions of power is promoted in order to provide facilities for the development of mining operations. Finally, the program will close with the analysis of corporate associations and shared risk.
